Want ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Claude to recommend you?
AI engines name the brands they keep reading about on news sites, trade publications, Reddit and review sites. We earn you those mentions, so the next answer includes you.
How the check works
Four steps. Nothing hidden.
- 1
We read your site
Your homepage tells us your brand name, what you sell and who buys it.
- 2
We write 5 buyer questions
Three full questions and two short searches, the way a buyer in your market types them into an AI assistant. You see every one.
- 3
We ask four AI engines
The same 5 questions across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Claude, with web search on: 20 live answers, not a guess.
- 4
We score the answers
Did they name you, how high up, and did they cite your site as a source?
Three signals in every answer
Each answer can earn up to 100 points. Your score is the average over every answer we got back. An answer an engine couldn't give doesn't count against you.
We show you the exact questions. Answers change from day to day and person to person, so treat this as a snapshot.
- 60pointsMentionedThe answer names your brand as an option.
- up to25pointsRankWhere you sit in the list. First place gets 25, each place lower gets 5 less.
- 15pointsCitedYour own website is one of the sources the engine used.
We ask ChatGPT (OpenAI), Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Claude (Anthropic) live, with web search on.
FAQ
AI Visibility Checker FAQ
What is the AI Visibility Checker?
yMedia's free AI Visibility Checker shows whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Claude recommend your brand. We write 5 questions a buyer in your market would ask and put them to all four engines with web search on, so you get 20 live answers, not a guess. Unlike most AI visibility tools, we show you every question we asked.
How is the AI visibility score calculated?
Each answer is scored on three signals. Being named as an option is worth 60 points. Your place in the list adds up to 25: first place gets 25, each place lower gets 5 less. Being cited as a source adds 15. Your score out of 100 is the average across all 20 answers.
Why isn't my brand mentioned in ChatGPT?
AI engines recommend brands they keep seeing on sources they trust: news sites, trade publications, review sites, Reddit and well-structured company pages. If those sources rarely name you, ChatGPT and the other engines rarely will. A low score is common and it can be changed.
Why does ChatGPT show me different results?
AI answers change from day to day and from person to person. The app you use may run a different model, remember your past chats or know where you are. The checker asks each engine once, with web search on and no history, so treat the result as a snapshot, not a ranking that holds every day.
Is the AI Visibility Checker free?
Yes. You get your AI visibility score, the 5 questions and every engine’s list of brands for free, with no signup. Enter your email to read the full answers, see which sites AI gets its answers from and get the PDF report. You can run 5 checks a day.
How do I improve my visibility in AI search?
Start with the free AEO/GEO audit to make sure AI crawlers can read your site. Then earn mentions on the sources AI engines trust. That second part is generative engine optimization (GEO), and it is what yMedia's GEO and PR team does for clients.
